A familiar culture, seen from a new perspective.

Living away from where we grew up made us look at familiar things differently. Details we once passed without thinking — materials, patterns, objects and ways of making — began to feel extraordinary. We started wondering how that richness could belong naturally in contemporary life. That question became LaLan.

We have always loved travelling, discovering new places, meeting people and experiencing cultures beyond our own. Over time, those journeys have taken on a deeper meaning. We are drawn to traditions that are quietly fading: crafts, techniques and forms of art that risk being lost. Finding these stories, meeting the people who still keep them alive, and imagining how they can find a place in the present makes every journey more meaningful to us.

Whenever possible, we work alongside local artisans and makers, learning from knowledge shaped over generations. From there, we begin exploring how that craftsmanship might take on a contemporary form.

We study what makes a tradition distinctive, from its materials and techniques to its symbols and meaning. Then we explore how those elements can belong naturally in contemporary life. The aim is not to recreate the past, but to give its story a new way to live today.
